WINE BARS IN LONDON

Wine by the Glass

We don’t mention it much, but did you know we are practically London’s most central wine bar? Turn left out of Boyds Grill & Wine Bar, walk a few paces up Northumberland Avenue towards Trafalgar Square and there it is. A small plaque set into the pavement marks the spot.

And so whether you are on looking for a wine bar near the Strand, near Charing Cross, or near Embankment, Boyds Grill & Wine Bar is perfectly suited.

With such a prestigious position on one of London’s most famous avenues, and with proximity to the heart of the greatest city on earth, we’re clearly going to deliver something very special when it comes to our attitude towards the vine. Spend five minutes with one of our friendly experts and you will see that this is very much the wine bar Charing Cross has been waiting for.

Firstly there’s the bar itself.

Set inside the opulent interior of the old Northumberland House, guests can sit up at our copper-topped bar and select wine by the glass, bottles or a range of house cocktails.

Our wine list contains both old and new world wines, and many of our most exceptional wines are available by the glass.

We’d recommend anyone new to Boyds try a glass of our own red, Boyd-Cantenac. Named for our proprietor Charles Boyd, this wine is made by Lucien Guillemet, one of the world’s best wine makers, and bottled exclusively for us at Boyds.

We are extremely proud of our wine list.

We were extremely impressed by the quality of their product but more importantly, the passion and attention to detail in their process that has made them the top British sparkling producers in England. We had the chance to taste the 1992 Blanc de Blanc, their first ever vintage made with a single vine Chardonnay that was truly special.

We are very proud to list some of their wines here at Boyds, including some of this incredible 1992 vintage. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.

Special highlights from our wine list would be the Bolfan from Croatia – a 2012 Primus Riesling and silver award winner at the Sommelier Awards in 2014 – a bold wine, with a rich aroma and a rounded finish on the palate. A perfect introduction into the carefully curated list of wines available at Boyds.

In keeping with our restaurant’s dedication to sourcing local artisanal ingredients, we’d recommend you try a glass of Three Choirs ‘Winchcombe Downs’ from Gloucestershire – another huge success story in English wine, this vineyard was the first English vineyard to be awarded a gold medal at VinExpo in Bordeaux.

Wichcombe Downs is just one of our great wines that can be enjoyed as part of our wine tastings. Enjoy these at the counter or at your table, our ‘by the glass’ machine serves up flights of 5 wines, expertly selected by our sommelier to complement each other and provide you with a insight into both classics and up and coming varietals.

In addition to some of our greatest finds (Chateau Musar from Lebanon) we of course carry a fantastic collection of Old World classics, from the deep reds of Bordeaux, deliciously dry Chablis from Burgundy and beautifully balanced Sancerre wines from the Loire Valley.

And if you still need further reasons to pull up a stool at the bar and see why we’re the finest wine bar embankment has to offer, then read on and learn more about our location and history.
